Okele lake mishap five dies at Okpe-lsoko

THE Okpe-lsoko community in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State experienced a sad day on September 1, 2014 when some children of Emeyeria families died in a canoe mishap when crossing Okele Lake after harvesting yam tubers.

The vice chairman, Okpe-lsoko vigilante group, Mr. Roland E. Anthony who spoke to Isoko Mirror explained that 5 persons died out of the 8 persons who were in the canoe. He said that it took about three days to find the three dead bodies and gave kudos to the youths who mobilized themselves for the search rescue mission.

He (Roland) further explained that three persons that died in the canoe mishap were children of Mr. Awolowo, a teacher by profession and the death of Kome’s wife sister who came from Oyede generated serious crisis in view of the fact that kome’s wife sister came to Okpe-lsoko on that fateful day and accompany her sister to the farm where the incident occurred. The father of Kome’s wife sister who is from Oyede alleged that her daughter was killed and refused to accept her daughter’s copse for burial.

At the time of this report, the elder brother of Awolowo, Dr. Erimu condemned the incident and asked for a thorough investigation into the incidence.  While other survived victims are receiving treatments in the hospital.
