· Community newspapers are opinion builders

Senator, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District in the Senate and 2015 Delta State governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed Governor Uduaghan for the infrastructural developments across Delta State particularly in the building of Asaba Airport and expansion and renovation of Osubi Airport as well as major roads in the state as he noted that the governor’s advancements so far will enhance tourism in the state.
The medical doctor cum politician who spoke with journalists in an interactive session in his residence at Asaba on Wednesday April 30th, 2014 also scored the past civilian governors including governor Uduaghan high in terms of advancements however added that he would consolidate and improve on their achievements if given the mandate to govern Delta State in 2015.
Senator Okowa advised strongly that Deltans should not sacrifice meritocracy for mediocrity on the altar of zoning in electing the governor of Delta State in 2015 adding that Deltans should go for a candidate that will see Delta as one state. He maintained that he was not vying for the number one political seat of Delta State because he is an Anioma person “other aspirants and myself should be judged on the bases of competence, experience and capacity. I have the experience that will reflect on the people of the state positively. I worked as secretary of local government council, chairman of local government council, commissioner in various ministries and secretary to the state government. I have been in government since 1999. These lines of exposure have prepared me enough to partner with Deltans as their governor in 2015”.
The Ika born political maestro charged media organizations particularly community base newspapers on balance reportage of aspirants. He described community newspapers as opinion builders “I am sure that by the time you ask questions from people, you will be able to assess aspirants correctly. For some aspirants are in the race for various reasons but aspirants should be judged based on competence. The press should be able to mould the opinion of people in the forthcoming political dispensation particularly as its affects aspirants”.
